Will Haynie

Mayor Will Haynie of Mount Pleasant, S.C., was elected to the town council in November 2015 and was elected as mayor twice in November 2017 and November 2021. Throughout his professional life, he has been the CEO of several nonprofits, including the Lowcountry Open Land Trust and the South Carolina Maritime Foundation. Mayor Haynie also has media experience as an op-ed columnist for three newspapers, including the Moultrie News and the Post & Courier, talk radio show host, and press secretary for U.S. Rep. Charles H. Taylor. He has published several books and currently owns his own media/marketing/PR advisory firm in Mount Pleasant.
Mayor Haynie serves on the boards of Charleston Regional Development Alliance, the “One Region Ready” Task Force, the Charleston International Airport, the Berkeley/Charleston/Dorchester Council of Governments, the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, the Mayors’ Commission on Homelessness and Affordable Housing and the Mount Pleasant Waterworks Commission.
Mayor Haynie holds a degree in business administration from The Citadel. While there, he rose to the highest cadet rank (regimental commander) and was elected by his classmates as Commander of the Summerall Guards. Mayor Haynie also received the Palmetto Medal Award, the highest award for leadership and principle that can be conferred by the college on a cadet. Mayor Haynie and his wife, Suzette Byrd Haynie, have four children.
