Michael R. Regner

Michael R. Regner is a retired Major General of the U.S. Marine Corps serving between 1976 and 2016. He was Commanding General, 1st Marine Division; Commander Marine Forces Korea; Director of Legislative Affairs, Headquarters US Marine Corps; Director of Marine Corps Staff, Headquarters Marine Corps; and Combat Veteran of Bosnia, Macedonia, Somalia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
He is a member of the Hibernian Society, a member of the Washington Light Infantry Society and the Knights of Columbus. He is also chairman of The Citadel Distinguished Alumni Committee, president of The Citadel Wrestling Association, and vice president of The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame.
Regner has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal-Navy Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Korean and Afghanistan Distinguished Service Medals, and the Marine Corps League and Knights of Columbus Leadership Awards. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from The Citadel and an MPA from Webster University. Regner also attended the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy and the U.S. Marine Corps Command & Staff in Quantico, Va. He and his wife, Mary Sottile Regner, have two sons and one daughter.
