Thomas Mundell, president and chief executive officer of The National Medal of Honor Leadership and Education Center(NMOHLEC), has spent his career helping for-profit and non-profit organizations make a difference in their communities. A son of a steelworker, Mundell grew up in Neville Island, Pa., on the Ohio River, and was one of 37 students in the final class at Neville High School. Mundell then served in the U.S. Air Force and was eventually named Airman of the Year at Dover Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force, he earned his degrees at Wesley College, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Vanderbilt University.
While attending Wesley College, Tom was elected as the National President of The Phi Theta Kappa Society. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Scholastic Honor Society for Community Colleges. Today the Society serves over 3.5 million members in the United States and 10 sovereign nations.
His stops include serving in senior executive positions in development and philanthropy with the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation; Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital; Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, N.J.; Hawaii Pacific Health; and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
As the CEO of NMOHLEC, Mundell is charged with overseeing the development of the Center’s national leadership program and the construction of its $75 million, 50,000-square foot facility at Patriots Point, S.C., along with all fundraising.
Tom and his wife Abby have 3 children and live in Charleston, S.C. and Pittsburgh, PA.
